Spork

In case you haven't heard, Spoon has created a new song for the soundtrack to Will Ferrell's new movie, Stranger Than Fiction.

Check out "The Book I Write".

Violently catchy? Hollywood cheesy? Spoon or fork or a little of both? You be the judge.

Apocalypse Now

Gwen Stefani has reportedly collaborated on a song with the keyboardist from Keane. So you're telling me that cupie doll Stefani, whose lyrics have inspired a rapid decline in intelligence worldwide, is making a track with the guy whose songs in NO WAY resemble every Coldplay song if they had been put through anger management?

Wow, where do I sign up? Is there a line?

Smashing Goofballs

While I'm as cautiously excited as the next fan that SP are slowly (and hopefully fully) regrouping, let's hope that none of their MySpace "friends" make it to any future shows. Here's a post from one little MySpace buddy:

"Billy, just promise me you will NOT have opening bands for your shows. I hate waiting 2 hours for 2 or 3 crappy opening bands. If I ever get famous, screw other bands, it will be MY show because people pay to see ME, not some other up and coming idiots."

You tell 'em, slugger. MySpace seems to generate relentless battalions of morons each day. Smashing Pumpkins seemingly have an entire fleet at their disposal.

A sad day for a once very cool band.

R.I.P. S.P., 1991-Mellon Collie.

Jeff "The Hit Man" Tweedy

I smashed a camera

I wanna know why

In your eye

Seems Tweedy decked a fan who ran onstage at a recent show. Might be time to get him back on painkillers. In other news, one extremely embarrassed fan had to admit he got decked by JEFF TWEEDY.

Listen Up

F*ck Liam. Noel. Solo. Acoustic. Don't worry, it was recorded last century. 3 tracks at Information Leafblower.

LCD Sucksystem

As if they didn't suck enough, LCD Soundsystem has taken sucking to an even higher level of suckdom. It's sort of a an art form really. This time they have partnered with Nike to produce a 45-minute workout track.

YEAH. Pump me up James Murphy, you perfect vision of health.

Indie Jamboree

It's that time of the year again, when Santa decides to go incognito as an LES indie rocker and down $1.50 PBR's as he hands out gift after gift.

This one's for you. And it doesn't even matter if you're naughty or nice.

Smart People Say Smart Things

And tell you what music you should like. Don't believe me? Here you go.

Our Forgotten Favorite

Get your slumber on. Oakland-based indie label darling Slumberland, which once brought us Velocity Girl's 1993 breakthrough 6 Song Compilation (SLR 23), is back in action.

Trail of GBV

Trail of Dead cover Guided By Voices on their forthcoming album. Compare/contrast over at Good Hodgkins.

Baruk Atah Puff

Dragons and yarmulkes can do many things. Dragons make you feel strong. Yarmulkes make you feel safe.

Putting them together makes you invincible.

Patches

Discussion of James Booker, his kick-ass patch and my vision issues, somehow led 5 to Snazzy Patches. I'd opt for the, currently sold out, red skull one. How bout you?

Welcome

What can we say about dragons and yarmulkes that hasn't been said before? Quite a bit, actually. Stick around.
